Important Message for Oyster Gardeners! We are Passing the Torch to the New York Harbor School
January 25, 2014We’re excited to announce that Baykeeper is passing the Oyster Gardening torch to the New York Harbor School’s Billion Oyster Project (BOP)! BOB currently runs an excellent program for middle schools so this transition is a natural one which will allow Baykeeper’s gardeners many more educational and research opportunities. Baykeeper is a proud partner of BOP.
Starting this season, all gardening activities will transition over to BOP.
What does this mean for you?
- BOP will hold the required NYSDEC permits for gardening activities.
- BOP will lead the required training sessions out on Governors Island.
- BOP will supply cages and oysters as in the past.
- Data will be submitted to BOP through this link
- An endpoint for your oysters on the Governors Island Reef!

Not already a gardener? Contact BOP to get involved!
Baykeeper is a proud partner of BOP and Baykeeper and Harbor School will continue to work together on restoring oysters to NY Harbor!
