October 3, 2014NY/NJ Baykeeper's 25th Anniversary Celebration was held at the Culinary Conference Center at Hudson County Community College in Jersey City, Thursday, November 13.
Baykeeper's Anniversary Celebration honored Tom Moran of the Star Ledger, in recognition of superior journalism. Moran worked closely with Baykeeper when writing editorials regarding the cleanup of the Passaic River. Wendy Neu was presented with the Spirit of Baykeeper Award for her dedicated time as a NY/NJ Baykeeper Board Member and environmental advocacy work. Bill Simmons, formerly of the Monmouth County Health Department, was honored in recognition of outstanding public service.
Distinguished guest, Tammy Murphy presented NY/NJ Baykeeper with a resolution from Former Vice President Al Gore.
"It is through the dedicated efforts of [organizations like Baykeeper] that we can reverse the degradation of our planet and restore the quality of our precious natural resources for generations to come. Congratulations on your 25th Anniversary, keep up the good work, and God bless," wrote Gore.
"Our environment is paramount to everyone in this room and on this planet. It's because of organizations like NY/NJ Baykeeper that we continue to persevere," said Murphy.
Assemblyman Raj Mukherji (D) presented NY/NJ Baykeeper and honorees with resolutions commending their dedicated work, detailing each honoree's accomplishments.
Anthony MacDonald, Director of the Urban Coast Institute at Monmouth University and NY/NJ Baykeeper Board Member highlighted the organization's accomplishments throughout the past 25 years. "Baykeeper's oyster restoration program has enormous potential for the NY/NJ Harbor. We can restore the bay in ways that people haven't even imagined," said MacDonald.
"While we celebrate our successes tonight, there is still much work to be done. I look forward to working with all our supporters and partners for the next 25 years and beyond," said Debbie Mans, Baykeeper and Executive Director of NY/NJ Baykeeper.
"Baykeeper shows that we must be brave and fearless. We can make a difference together...You can do well and do good at the same time," said Honoree Wendy Neu.
The anniversary celebration featured passed hors'doeuvres, drinks, a live jazz duo, and various silent auction items including tickets to the New York Philharmonic, Liberty State Park, wine baskets, original Baykeeper kayak, Baykeeper Eco Cruse tickets, and more.
Event parking is available within the Sip Ave Parking Garage across the street from the venue.
