Compton's Creek Cleanup , Saturday, May 31, 2008

The NY/NJ Baykeeper, Bayshore Regional Watershed Council, Friends of Pews Creek, and Middletown Environmental Commission invite citizens and organizations to participate in a cleanup of Compton's Creek in the general area of Church Street, Belford/Port Monmouth, NJ. The cleanup will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2008, from 9am to noon. This an effort to remove garbage and floatables that have accumulated along Church St at Compton's Creek and prevent them from entering the creek and floating to the Sandy Hook Bay.
The cleanup will be along the road and onto the mud flats adjacent to Compton's Creek during low tide so be sure to wear appropriate clothing. Boots or Waders, old jeans and sneakers that you can afford to ruin are recommended.
Be sure to bring binoculars and bird watching field books as this location is a great spot for great blue heron, egrets, osprey, willets, and night herons, to name a few
Meeting/parking area will be the gravel parking lot at north terminus of Main Street at Port Monmouth Road (just west of Church St in Port Monmouth
